The second lecture we had for today is from Nichifutsu Boeki company. This company was founded in 1954 by a French business group, in Tokyo. The main business for this company is exchanging car insurance, art and furniture. After 1990’s this company began focus on food and beverage. After keep improving, right now, as a distribution company, the mainly two big markets are retail and food service.  As Tony Nemeka said, “Foreign companies that do not modify their business strategies to fit Japan unique business conditions usually fail.” Even though this company is not a foreign company, but as a bright between other company and Japan, to exchange the goods from different countries, they also pay much attention about it. After the second free day in Tokyo, the first company we visited is Kawasaki Rikuso Transportation Company. This company has 93 years of history and its office is widespread in Japan. KPT offer all-in-one logistics service ranging from customs clearance, inland transportation, bonded storage, warehousing, pick—pack and delivery, as well as value added service such as inspection, re-packaging, labeling, etc.  There are some points I think is worth to share on today’s blog. The first is the way they use the space. In Tokyo, every piece of space is very scarce. So, to increase the efficiency of using the land to storage as many goods as they could, they use their space as three-dimension way. They use many stores shelfs so that cargos can be put on the difference space levels for the warehouse. By doing this way, it is more convenience for KRT to manage the cargo and space. Second, in KRT many work is done by human. Many companies we visited have a similar...

The second station for 5.19 was Tuna Processing Plant. This is a big plant which has its own frozen storage warehouse and manufactory.    In the frozen storage warehouse, the temperature could reach negative sixty calcium degree. Tuna could be storage for three to five years and keep the fresh for the fish meat. Very appreciate, we have chance to visit into the warehouse which the temperature is negative sixty calcium degree just with t-shirt and jeans. It is so freezing that my noise lost sensibility. I think no one would want to try it again. The technology for them to use to create such a low temperature is LNG. Most of companies in Japan are very concern about the environment friendly. For this plant, by using solid nitrogen, they save a huge amount of energy comparing with the amount to use electricity. Also, to cool down the machine, they use the cold water from a nearby gas station. After the water absorb the heat from the machine, they drain away the wat...
